ABOUT SYLVIE LAUZON

Sylvie Lauzon is an abstract Mixed media artist from Montreal that lives and work in St-Henri neighborhood in Montreal.   Despite the outward appearance of unrestrained spontaneity, an astringent discipline undergirds each piece.  Layers of brushwork—sometimes precise, sometimes free-flowing—build upon an underlying structure. The introduction of mixed media elements like collage paper and pencil lines add depth and texture to the canvas.  The remnant shadows of words and hidden narratives peek through the layered paint.

Her mastery of contrast, shape, and negative space creates compositions that feel suspended between abstraction and subtle hints of representation. Symbols and forms emerge and fade, giving each piece a dynamic, almost mystical quality. Instead of overwhelming gestures, Lauzon’s work embraces an open sense of space, offering a calm contrast to the intensity of abstract expressionism.  Her work is in invitation to sit down and stay a while.

Though her process is guided by instinct, each painting reflects a thoughtful, intentional refinement—like a carefully edited document where only the essential remains. Her work captures the balance between impulsive creativity and deliberate precision.
